In each Story Drama class, a new book is thoroughly explored. With eagerness and joy, students use their voices, bodies, and imaginations to activate the characters, setting, and conflict of the story. They experiment with various tactics to solve the problem, reach a resolution, and reflect on the adventure. Students experience different viewpoints as they play characters, and develop ownership and a sense of accomplishment as they save the world week after week.

    Outdoor Shakespeare and Stage Combat

    Grades: 7-10
    • Class times

      August 14- August 18

      Monday-Friday

      9:00am-3:00pm

    Directed by Ryan Higgins

Get ready for an acting experience unlike any other. Come flex your Shakespeare muscles, textually and literally, in one of the most difficult acting arenas for performers: the outdoors. Ever wanted to watch Hermia and Helena throw punches? What if Lady Macbeth’s raven monologue was done while she was practicing broadsword drills? We’ll work on Shakespearean monologues, scenes, generative work, and combat, taking them to the trees and truly making the world your stage. Dress appropriately – rain or shine, the show must go on!

Improv Our Way to Making a Play

Ages 18-25, on autism spectrum or with other special needs
    • Class Times

      August 21-25

      1:00-4:00pm

    Directed by Mark Waldstein

We’ll start by tossing some ideas around on Monday…play with them through the week, develop them…and by Friday, we’ll perform a world-premiere one-act play we’ve created together out of thin air! Previous stage experience is not necessary. Working together is the key, along with being open-minded and having a sense of adventure. It’s a moment in the spotlight for those who may not get the opportunity elsewhere – and a chance to work on social skills in a fun, creative atmosphere.

*This class is for adults ages 18-25 who are on the autism spectrum or with other special needs.
