“Long before haunted houses existed, haunted woods circled the globe. Homer knew it. The Brothers Grimm knew it. In legend, all the great mythic quests of self-discovery begin with the hero entering a dark wood. Some journeys also end there.” ― Robert Dunbar, Dark Forest
“It came from the woods. Most strange things do.” ― Emily Carroll, Through the Woods
The Forest is the setting for the dark tales we will share. It is full of enchantments and wonders and we will journey through its twisting thorns and shadows, entering the home of blood-seekers, bone-crunchers and teeth that snap under full moons. We might find a path or lose our way… anything can happen in the woods…

In Forest Lore, we will use multiple styles of puppetry (including shadow play, modified Bunraku and object manipulation) to tell fantastical stories and meet the many weird, wonderful and frightening creatures lurking in the woods. Puppetry incorporates physicality, voice work, and lots of teamwork. We will be improving our dexterity, specificity and character work, as well as using our imaginations to bring the impossible to life.

The Secret History of Nikola Tesla

    Grades 5-8
    • Rehearsals and Tech

      August 28- September 1

      Monday-Friday

      12:30pm-5:30pm

    • Performance

      Friday, September 1, 4:00pm

    Directed by Steven Sterne
    Written by Jennifer Dice

Nikola Tesla was, perhaps, the most brilliant inventor of the 19th and 20th centuries; the discovery of electricity, radio, and several technologies that – if ever brought to fruition – could prove even more revolutionary. His life was tragic, but in Dice’s play the tables are turned. The first two thirds closely follow history, but the last part of the play shows the future Tesla should have had – a better future, in which Susan B Anthony is President of the United States, and Thomas Edison admits that Tesla is the better scientist.

Roles include Tesla, Edison, George Westinghouse, financier Andrew Carnegie, Marie Curie, manners maven Emily Post, and a host of newsies, ditch diggers and talking pigeons, and more.
